What Husbands Need from Their Wives

Today I am working on the fifth sermon in the sermon series I have been preaching, "Family Matters." Sunday's sermon will address what husbands need from their wives. I have read a lot of books and articles, but I thought it would be great to hear from some real live husbands. So, husbands, this is your chance to make sure that your voice is heard. What do you most need or want from your wife?

Hey Kevin!
I found you through Andrew Conard's blog.
I think, for me, as a pastor, one thing I constantly need, and am grateful for is my wife's patience and understanding.
Being a guy, and I don't mean to offend other guys, I'm stupid.
And I don't get things done right the first time...
but more importantly, when it comes to ministry, i think we as pastors need our wives support and understanding, at the same time she needs my promise that family is the most important ministry I can embark on.

I am now just rambling. sorry.

I think you hear this more often about guys, than from them, but - listening. Wives - be good listeners. I am often frustrated by my wife because she is really good at talking, and really bad at listening. We recognized this early in our relationship when I was accused of "never telling her anything." I pointed out the next time she interrupted me one minute into my talk and proceeded to dominate the conversation for the next 10 minutes. Honestly, it is stressful.

Wives, if you husband "never tells you anything," consider that it may be because you're not actively listening to him.

Most guys I know need to convey their thoughts and feelings given the appropriate outlet. Maybe I'm the only one - but I'm not buying it. ;)

Joseph and Brian,

Thanks to both of you for stopping by and for taking the time to leave your thoughts. I appreciate what both of you have to say. You both bring up things that I have been and will continue to think about as I work on this sermon.

Thanks!
